TWO—Count ‘Em, Two—Terrible Trailers!

Two trailers came out today, and they both look AWFUL. First up: THE DEFENDERS!

Someone smack that “immortal Iron Fist”, because he sounds like a whiny little punk. All in all, I’m got getting positive vibes from this one.

And now… THE DARK TOWER!

Listen, assholes, ROLAND DOES NOT NEED TO BE CONVINCED TO GO TO THE TOWER BY SOME SNOT-NOSED PUNK KID.

That’s the entire POINT of his character.

You’ve taken a colorful and original character, and turned him into another cookie-cutter “Reluctant Hero”, refusing the call to adventure. SAVE ME FROM SAVE THE CAT. Save us all.

The movie looks resoundingly generic. What a waste.

  1. Defenders is being made by the Daredevil guys, so I have a bit more faith in that than the other TV shows. Daredevil remains the only great show of all 4.

As for Dark Tower, well, it’s Sony. There was no chance they wouldn’t mess it up somehow.

  3. Eh, I’m holding out some hope for Defenders, but am completely ready to be burned.

As for the Dark Tower, I still need to finish the series, but some of the spoiler-filled discussion I read implied this could be a continuation/reboot that actually somehow fits into the story’s mythos? Thus this is a different Roland than from the books, but reliving his experience in a different way? It’s something to do with the horn of Eld. Though the trailer did do some Roland whiplashing – he’s chasing the man in black to the Tower then Jake needs to inspire him to do so? That may be a fault of the trailer more than the movie, skipping out some middle experiences. Roland does have some close to nihilistic moments in the books I read, though it’s been a while.

Sigh… Time to go read them. Can’t keep being the poster boy of Jeffro’s Educated alliteracy accusations.
