Gene Wilder, Dead at 83. You Will Be, and Were, Missed

Gene Wilder passed away yesterday, at the age of 83. Probably best known for his turn as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, he also appeared in my favorite Mel Brooks movie, Blazing Saddles.

He hadn’t done anything of note, theatrically, in recent years, not since an Emmy-winning turn on Will and Grace 13 years ago. Still, his performances were immortal, well remembered and well loved.

Sing us out, Gene.

You were, and will be, missed.

  1. He’s with Gilda again. I’m not sure he ever really recovered from losing her.

It occurred to me: Mel is the only one from Blazing Saddles left. And Mel and Terri Garr are all that’s left from Young Frankenstein. So many legends gone.
