Unbreakable: Imperfect, but Amazing!

Love me some Unbreakable. One of Shyamalan’s best. The Sixth Sense was, admittedly, a better movie strictly speaking, but Unbreakable holds a special place in my heart for being a unique and utterly bizarre twist on the tropes of comic book lore.

I’ve always wanted to play / run a roleplaying game set in a world inspired by Unbreakable, but I’ve never been able to come up with a mythos that matched its mood and background. It remains, thus far, an excellent mood piece, immune to the kind of genericization and tropification that great RPG’s are born of.

  1. Yeah, I’ve thought about a world where superpowers might be real, but nobody would know because nobody would test. That’s why for my hypothetical team set up, (after Bruce Willis) the guy who brings it together has super-ish senses because that’s probably the one power you really would know you had.

Anyway, it’s one of those movies I wish had a sequel, but I’m also kind of glad it doesn’t. This is one time perhaps we should be left wanting more.

(oh who are we kidding, Sony will probably grab this film and reboot it so they can get their 30 MOVIE FRANCHISE finally)
