Top Gun Tuesday!

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of one of the best military movies ever made: Top Gun! To celebrate, Cinefix made…

Top Gun is a movie that got nearly everything perfectly right: casting, acting, story (ironic, given what’s in the above video), and soundtrack. The soundtrack, especially. The album hit the #1 best selling slot for 5 weeks, eventually going not platinum, not double platinum, not triple platinum but 9x platinum, representing nine million copies sold. (I’m listening to it on Apple Music right now, actually.)

“Danger Zone”, the iconic anthem from the film, is so legendary that it scored a prime spot in GTA V (as I wrote about a few days ago), even earning Kenny Loggins a DJ slot in the crime sim. The love theme, “Take My Breath Away”, crested at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in America, and was also #1 in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada, and Belgium.

GREAT soundtrack.

The movie wasn’t bad, either. You should maybe watch it some time.
