Zombies vs. Cockneys vs. Halo vs. Call of Duty?!

Some people find this funny, but I don’t get it. Is it like a British thing or something?

There’s the VG references, which I recognize, and the Cockneys vs Zombies and Shaun of the Dead references, which I also recognize, but as a whole it just isn’t funny to me.

Is this what being old feels like? Have I passed the Generation Gap? Is it all downhill from here until my inevitable death at the age of 99, in the arms of a Swedish supermodel masseuse? Am I doomed to forever look at the younger generation and wonder “The hell is wrong with you punks, anyway?”

No. This is genuinely stupid, a mishmash of pop-culture references that are supposed to poke at the pleasure centers of your geek brain and make you think they’re funny, when they’re not. “Wait, I recognize that reference! Hahahaha!” It’s not humor.

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!

Yep. Critics like Red Letter Media have pointed out the current over-reliance on pop culture references in so-called comedies. In a way, it’s understandable since nothing’s harder to write than a well crafted joke.

Taking the lazy way is understandable–but not excusable.
